Snipe photog Christopher Edmonstone sent in these pics of Shred Kelly at the Railway Club Wednesday night. The band was part of the Tracks on Tracks cross-Canada train tour in 2012.
According to the bio on the Shred Kelly website, the group members came together in Fernie, in the East Kootenays of B.C. “The five-piece band is best known for mixing clawhammer banjo riffs that tear the fabric of space and time with ambient synth, high voltage guitar, fierce drums, and hauntingly sweet vocal harmonies to produce a sound that has been properly coined ‘Stoke Folk’,” says the bio.
The lineup includes Tim Newton (banjo/ukulele/vocals), Jordan Vlasshaert (bass), Ian Page Shiner (drums), Steve Polit (guitar) and Sage McBride (keyboards/vocals).
Shred Kelly has two full-lengths to its credit: the 2010 debut Goodbye July, including the songs “I Hate Work” and “Ghost Inside My Head”, and their latest, In the Hills. Currently streaming on the band’s website, In the Hills is an accomplished folk-rock record with strong songwriting (“Time is Passing” and “The Bear”, with lead vocals by McBride, are standouts).
Shred Kelly was recently awarded 2012 Artist of the Year at the Kooteney Music Awards.
