Dine Out Vancouver guide

From Jan 18 – Feb 3, the Vancouver restaurant industry gets its annual shot in the arm. Dine Out Vancouver is Canada’s largest restaurant festival, with over 200 participating restaurants.

When you think about it, Dine Out Vancouver is a pretty good idea. Typically around this time of year, with people still hurting from the holidays (and, in the case of family members of this writer, an obsessive stint of blackjack over at partycasino.com, no one’s in a rush to spend more money eating out.

Anyway, we’ve looked over the list of participating establishments and have a few suggestions. (Caveat emptor: We don’t eat out like some people–Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, say–but we do get out on occasion.)

C Restaurant–It’s on the water and we had a terrific tasting meal recently. We always swore to return if are ever in the money. This might be our chance.

Chambar–This place rocks. They’ve tried to get rid of their blue fig martini but patrons wouldn’t let them. Awesome steaks as well, if you’re that way inclined. And Belgian beer to top it all off!

Cincin Ristorante + Bar–For several years we attended a Vancouver Film Festival unofficial kickoff party at this joint. The food has always been exceptional, but the unending bottles of wine may have swayed our opinion.

Dunn’s Famous Restaurant–Are you a fan of Montreal smoked meat? This is your place. Right downtown, too. Leonard Cohen would eat here if it was kosher.

Federico’s Supper Club–East Vancouver’s only supper club! Entertainment plus food, Italian-style.

Fish House in Stanley Park–We once attended a business networking association meeting here.

Forage–Locally sourced food in a hotel restaurant on Robson. The times they are a-changin’.

This ends part 1 of Dine Out Vancouver recommendations. Stay tuned for part 2, coming sometime between now and Jan 18.
