Review–Nobunny at War On Music, Winnipeg, Aug 2 2009

– review by Eugene Osudar

punk rock show
NOBUNNY
Angry Dragons
and
Blowholes
3 bands $5
70 people paid
in the basement
War On Music

it’s Sunday,
Blink 182
in a filled
arena (MTS
Center)

L’il Ed and The Imperials
playing the hard blues
Times Changed
tix 20 a pop
super packed

long weekend
cottage time
mass exodus of
Winnipeggers

and the icelandic fest
in Gimli, Vitamins For You
John K Samson
The Details
Royal Wood
Fred Penner

for this Sunday
night in Winnipeg
70 is Fantastic!

War On Music
has a base of
supporters
who are willing
to show up
to any event

“How many have you had in here?”
says me to the friendly door guy.

“we’ve had about 100,
right to the door here.”

by the time NOBUNNY
plays at 12:50 AM,
there are maybe 40
left

it’s all so black
down here
in the basement
of War On Music
Black walls
Black t/shirts
hanging,
why is black the color
of hardcore?

like seriously,
wear some yellow
some red
some pink
be different
be an Individual
be,
dare i say,

Punk!

Anarchy is so boring
these days and nights
a few tattoos
strategically
displayed
black shirt
black pants
black shoes
and a black
disposition

Blowholes
are 4 beautiful women
who are So Very
Punk
barely making it
through songs
never ending as one
that’s Punk
doing it
being it

and if you
can do
better
then

do it

get a band together
get yourselves a name
like the new local band
The Vibrating Beds
make up some songs
better yet
cover Engelbert
Humperdink and
Pat Boone
just, please,
do something
different
maybe wear
a bunny suit
a shark skin suit
a jersey cow suit
your birthday suit
a suit of lights
just please,

No More Boring Black!

Blowholes,
at least they’re not all
wearing black
there’s a dress
high cut skirt
and so sexy legs
sex sells
see Civet
on guttersnipe

https://www.thesnipenews.com/2009/07/31/civet-opening-for-social-
distortion-burton-cummings-theater-july-29/

whack those drums
and those cymbals
okay, the bassist
wears black but
i LOve her scant
poetic rant
(s) words like
slogans like
ads for death
or glory, (Clash)ing
juxtaposition images
between songs
as they try and
find the next song
or fix an amp
on the Blink (182)
her bass looks taller
than she is
and i love the way
they move through
\space/
it’s poetry
changing positions
and bassist girl
moves in with the
audience breaking
the barrier
between us

40 minutes of punk
rock,stops,starts
poetic spiels
i like it!

Angry Dragons
are tight
are ferocious
are angry
and i danced
from song 1
to song last
35 minutes
non-stop
\dancing/
they can play
hard,fast
with the best
vocals of any
punk
band in this city
(Joanne)
Jen on guitar
Ana on bass
Bill on drums

now, if Erica was singing
in Blowholes
instead of whacking those
drums,
Joanne would have some
competition

http://www.myspace.com/thequiffs

12:50 AM
we’re into the bunny suits
4 guys
getting down to the comedy
of all this all-in-black
seriousness
of gotta-be-cool
hardcore
anarchy

three down to their red underwear
color coordinated
new and shiny
one in shorts
bunny masks
and hats

bounce
bouncing
balls
and
dicks

bunny tricks

see, it doesn’t take much
to be cool

just have the Courage
the bouncing balls
or breasts
to be different
and Courage
to laugh at
yourself

look in a mirror
all in black fool
you look ridiculous
like those trained
monkeys in business
suits
same internal attire

http://www.myspace.com/nobunnylovesyou

opening with
hilarious
Nobunny Loves You
and they’re bunny hopping
this is it!
punk rock
garage style!

NOBUNNY
delivers
us into courageous
silly dancing
we’re kids again

they’re in the crowd
teasing and taunting
we’re singing along
dancing
bunny-hopping
to the pulsating PoP
one minute songs
two minutes tops
messy hard songs
sloppy minute miracles

beer cups and cans flying
sparkly things tossing
drunken scenester
staggering into mosh
frenzy and falling
Timber!

he’s even too drunk for
NOBUNNY And fully
appreciated because
he’s sharing his beer

lean him against the wall
so he doesn’t fall
again and again

it’s Sunday night
no beer
everything’s closed
no booze for sale
in
War On Music

Hocus Pocus is “a twist off”
okay, we’re hopping And
twisting

with Elvis Christ
(Christian groups
where are you?
NOBUNNY
needs CNN controversy!)
on guitar
lead guitar
well, they only have
the one guitarist

it’s Billy’s birthday
(happy birthday
fellow Leo)
on drums

there is a bit
of Happy Birthday
like 5 seconds
worth

Billy invites the girls
or just any 1 girl
to a sleep,over
at their place

14 songs
i didn’t get all of them

All
garage punk
genius

Give It To Me
I Am A Girlfriend
Boneyard
Motorhead With Me
Chuck Berry Holiday
Tell The TRuth
Not That Good

Buddy Holly’s
It’s So Easy To Fall In Love
not just once but twice
brilliant
and back to back!
now that’s punk!

yelling and dancing
this is glorious

in fact, why not play
the same song
five times
and maybe
play them all the same
or take turns doing the vocals
or play them all different
just let go!

very Replacements
but not as sloppy

“we’ll rock you
for at least another 15 minutes.
Maybe 17 minutes.”

who cares!

NOBUNNY rocks

i doubt the set was 35
with
short blast songs
and all the comedy
kicking the seriousness
out of these anarchists

“This is your life people,”
chastises Elvis Christ

and He’s So Right
the show is us and them
what we make of it
and the boring all in blackers
are the ones who are dead
already

the walking dead

and here we are
dancing silly
the courageous ones
are, Punk!

now,
find a bunny
suit
a bunny mask
and Be
Truly Cool

truly
Punk

truly anarchist

truly hard,core!
