Preview – Christopher Edmonstone’s GRIT photography exhibition

Christopher Edmonstone has shot a ton of shows for our site. When it comes to music, the Vancouver photog usually specializes in local performers and events like the Peak Performance Project.
With GRIT – Scenes of Southeast Asia, the winner of the Capture Festival Georgia Straight People’s Choice Award will showcase his travel photography. Grit, at PhotoHausGallery (14 West 7th Ave.), marks Edmonstone’s first solo exhibition.
GRIT opens this Friday Jan. 24 and runs until Feb. 7. The opening night reception begins at 7 p.m.
In an artist’s statement about the show, Edmonstone stated:Â “What I love about photography is its ability to instantly transport the viewer to a place and time that can stir recollections of bygone travels, depict exotic locations most unlike where the viewer lives or are even likely to visit and inspire dreams.
“I strive to capture images showing local peoples’ engagement with the land and am particularly interested in activities that are carried out largely as they have always been, despite the rapidly advancing technological landscape. For me, GRIT embodies not just the characteristic of people that maintain their determination over long periods despite facing adversity from the physical environment and economic circumstances, but I believe that GRIT can be observed in inanimate objects, found in the cultural landscape, which are also subjected to the same the harshness of clime and human use.”
