Listen – Louise Burns, ‘Who’s the Madman?’

Louise Burns has just released a new song from her forthcoming album. “Who’s the Madman?” is the kind of dream-pop we’ve come to expect from Burns, and we mean this in the best possible way. (Vancouver’s Twin River also traffics in this sound, so maybe we can call it a trend?)

The song is off Young Mopes, a full-length expected in February of next year. The album is Burns’ third, following her 2011 debut, Mellow Drama, and the 2013 follow-up, The Midnight Mass.

According to the press release for the song, Young Mopes is the first album that Burns recorded with her band, guitarist Darcy Hancock and drummer Ryan Peters, both formerly of Vancouver group Ladyhawk (not to be confused with Australia’s Ladyhawke).

Burns is the co-founder of ’90s pop band Lillix, which signed to Madonna’s Maverick Records when Burns was 15. She now collaborates with various projects, including Gold & Youth.

According to the press release, she has played throughout Japan, China, Europe, and North America. Burns is also a freelance contributor and host on CBC’s Radio 3, and a journalist whose writing appears on CBC Music, the Talkhouse, and Westender.
