Review and photos - Angry Dragons at the Royal Albert, Winnipeg, Feb 5 2010

– review by eugene osudar/photos by Ailsa Dyson

so here i go on another rave
with hugs (from unfathomable
beauty)
and dance misbehave
i’ll rant
about new bands
and old bands/sexy
singers
Lost

rave and rant,
eugene
rave
rant
eugene
and roar
big cats,
The Machine!

The Vibrating Beds,
all the great things
i’ve heard
are true

there’s power and anger
there’s Elvis
hip rattle roar
rock n roll!
early
dirty
hard,core
Sex Elvis
the one that was Punk.
that was rave
that was orgasmic

he rocked
he gyrated and made
the world swoon
and fantasize
on
Vibrating Beds

shaken stirred
ripped rattled
and believe

“you’re just what i need,”
curses Jenna Dangerous.

Jenna’s venomous
lead delivery
and slop crazy
riffs
(Jenna and Hot Carl)
it’s all punk
mayhem
riot riot band

there’s the sloppy
hard punk
and the right on
rock n roll,
well, you need the contrast
to understand
they can do it all,

i prefer more
sloppy
more punk
amore
Punk!

Ryan’s a rock
on drums
smashing
everything,
The Power coming
from his core
he doesn’t move
except his arms.

and Leif on bass,
he looks like his head
is about to explode,
reminds me of Bob Somers
with The Bonaduces.

Transistor 66 Records
has a hold of all the crazy
bands,

and if you don’t have that
look
that look of exploding
nearly any second now
you need not apply.

Transistor 66

they dearly
held a band that i
Loved,
Hot Live Guys
harder punk
than Monotonix

hugging unimaginable
beauty
in heart, beat,
frenzy

unplanned mayhem
from the heart
from punk souls
true
hard
and alive

rattle and shake

last night’s smash
affair of the heart
The Angry Dragons
pink balloons
and fishnets
leopard skin tights
and tattoos
7 inch (releaSing)
single
and Joanne’s
vocals

she’s one of my faves

Jessee Havey
Sarah Dugas
Joanne Rodriguez

my fave female vocalists in Winnipeg
in no (dis)order
I simply love them
I Love what their voices
do to me
stir inside me
how they shake me

awake
alive

they make me soar
with their voices

Joanne is
a punk rocker
you’ll never know
just how incredible
her voice is
by going to a Dragons show

the music is LoUD
and 60s
female band inspired
with that garage punk
diatribe vibe
hard hard Vibrations
social distortions

so we writhed
in Picasso-like
contortions,

in simpler words,

we danced

50 minutes

her partners in thrash,

Jen Alexander on guitar
Anastasia Chipelski on bass
Bill Northcott on drums

www.myspace.com/theangrydragons1234

Sexereenos
Esquirita
Hex
what a way to die
Joanne’s new song
fast one
if you ever go
in this town
cant seem to make
Donna’s song
Fire
Nothin’
girlfriend
Shakin’
Snake apartment

www.myspace.com/thevibratingbeds

Vibrating Beds
40 minutes

played most of these songs,

Girl Can’t Dance
Right Around Corner
Pepper Shaker
Strychnine
Maybe Baby
Baby Tell Me
new one
Some Kinda Fool
Heeby Jeebies
Poison Ivy
The Witch (?)
Just What I Need
What You Do To Me

The Vibrating Beds
were once
Sweet Nothings
playing dance music
with Jill’s sweet/sexy
soul
on lead voice.

Jill needs to be fronting a band
so does Erica
formerly of The Quiffs

so many sexy
hard
punk goddesses

if only
if only
the remaining hard,
core of Hot Live Guys
with Erica of The Quiffs
on voice
that would be,
Hot Live Sex

it’s a roar
and a growl
dance floor in
a punk rock snarl

shaking and rattling
hair flying
twisting
turning
hips
and shoulders
and torsos
cork,
screwing,

hard core sex
on the floor

now that’s
dancing.

Jenna Dangerous, lead voice and guitars
Hot Carl Hochheim on guitars
Ryan Fiteau on drums
Leif Gobeil (yet again) on bass

after their incredible set
i go to Leif,
“you’re in two of my favorite
new local bands.”

Leif also plays bass for Kids On Fire.
his head
nearly
explodes in that band
too.

now,
if only
if only
there was a local band
with the name
The Exploding Heads
pure
pure
hard,core
sex.

The Angry Dragons
The Vibrating Beds
Royal Albert Arms
February 5.
