The Pains of Being Pure at Heart at Fortune Sound Club, Vancouver, on Friday night. The Brooklyn-based band is currently touring in support of their third album, Days of Abandon.

Singer/guitarist Kip Berman fronts the band. According to Wikipedia, the most recent live version of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart includes Christoph and Anton Hochheim, Jacob Sloan, Jessica Weiss (who also fronts the UK’s Fear of Men, which opened the show), and Jen Goma.

According to a press release, “The album was recorded at new Greenpoint studio House Under Magic which is owned by longtime Pains cohort Danny Taylor (ZaZa). Produced by Andy Savours (My Bloody Valentine, Patrick Wolf, Cloud Boat) and mixed by Charlie Hugall at London’s Engine Room (Swim Deep, Florence And the Machine), Abandon departs from the exaggerated roar and clamor that defined the group’s last record, the Flood-and-Alan Moulder helmed Belong.”

The name of the band is based on a 1991 book written by Charles Augustus Steen III.
