Nicki Minaj brought her unique fashion sense to Vancouver last night as part of Lil Wayne‘s I Am Music II tour.
She trained as an actress before releasing three mixtapes between 2007 and 2009 and signing to Lil Wayne‘s label Young Money Entertainment.
In her review of the Lil Wayne/Minaj Rogers Arena show for The Snipe, Heather Welsh writes:
“Minaj sets a new standard for female rappers everywhere. Her unique style, which is is intentionally less sexual than most females in the hip-hop industry, along with songs that inspire strong female identity, have helped lead to her success. All of her dancers and her DJ were female and, as in a Broadway musical, they acted out different scenarios in extravagant outfits.
“In the dub-step influenced ‘Did it On ‘Em’, Minaj shouted, ‘Girls, put your number twos in the air if you did it on ‘em!’ and pulled out a dildo in time for the lyric ‘If I had a dick, I would pull it out and piss on ‘em’. She also played ‘Super Bass’, a track from the deluxe edition of her debut Pink Friday that made the crowd go nuts.”
