Nedelle Torrisi, former lead singer of Bay Area band Cryptacize, opening for Julia Holter at the Biltmore Cabaret in Vancouver Monday night.

Torrisi is on tour for a new self-titled album. She was accompanied by a keyboardist and, intermittently, other guest musicians. She introduced the set by saying she was going to play “the quiet storm versions” of the songs.

Besides Cryptacize, Torrisi has recorded and/or toured with Xiu Xiu, Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Saturday Looks Good to Me and Sufjan Stevens. Since 2005′s From the Lion’s Mouth (credited simply to “Nedelle,” no last name), she has also recorded as a solo act, singing and writing torchy R ‘n’ B (she’s been known to rock a Sade T-shirt). Guests on her new album include Nite Jewel and Julia Holter.
