Tales of the Cocktail in Vancouver
– by Shawn Conner
After a successful inaugural edition last year, Tales of the Cocktail is returning to Vancouver. The event, which began 10 years ago in New Orleans (and is still held there annually), features tastings, seminars, competitions and inebriation, not necessarily in that order.
The 2012 Tales of the Cocktail in Vancouver will be held Feb 12-15 at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel. An all-inclusive ticket will run you $195 plus services fees. This will get you full access to all Tales of the Cocktail on Tour events including seminars, tasting rooms, parties and more, each featuring some of the biggest names in mixology from Canada and around the world.
Vancouver mixologist Lauren Mote told us, “We are always excited when the ‘scientists’ come to town. Harold Magee and Dave Arnold are always our favourites. The sheer charisma, passion and camaraderie that occurs during the festival is our favourite part – people from all over the world flock to be with each other, and that’s something we could never shy away from!”
Local talent at the Canadian Professional Bartender’s Association-sponsored event includes Jay Jones (Market by Jean-Georges), Danielle Tatarin (The Keefer Bar) and David Wolowidnyk (West Restaurant).
Mote’s catering company Kale & Nori will host an official Tales of the Cocktail on Tour Vancouver Spirited Dinner at Legacy Liquor Store on Feb 13 2012. The evening, inspired by La Belle Epoque, features a five-course dinner by Chef Jonathan Chovancek and paired cocktails by Mote.
You can find more ticket info as well as an itinerary at the Tales of the Cocktail website.
