Monica Lee donates sales from her new single to the DTES Women’s Centre.

Today (Sept 4) Monica Lee is donating all of the Bandcamp Friday sales of her latest single “What Went Wrong” to the Vancouver Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre.

You can check out the song here: monicalee.bandcamp.com.

The centre inspired the writing of “What Went Wrong,” according to a media release. The song appears on her latest album, Farewell. Living in East Vancouver, Lee regularly encounters women in crisis and wrote the song with the aim to try to understand the underlying circumstances of their pain, addiction, and homelessness.

“The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre assists women with their immediate and crisis needs so they can develop stability and access the resources they need to improve health, family, employment, and housing situations,” Lee says in a statement. “They promote positive change by offering individual long-term support, education, advocacy, peer mentorship, and exposure to alternatives. I’m proud to donate all Bandcamp sales on Friday Sept. 4, purchases that will go towards helping women in need.”

Lee blends country, blues, and jazz on her latest album. The late John Mann of Spirit of the West once compared Monica Lee to Joni Mitchell.
