Low is an American indie rock group formed in 1993. They played the Imperial on June 17 for the last show of their West Coast tour with Mono.

Slow tempos and minimalist arrangements characterize Low’s music. They have often been categorized into a rock subgenre called “slowcore.”

Mimi Parker plays the drums and Alan Sparhawk the guitar. But it is their striking vocal harmonies which the group is best known for. Music columnist Denise Sullivan once wrote that the husband and wife duo’s vocals are “as chilling as anything Gram and Emmylou ever conspired on.”

Low released their eleventh studio album in 2015 titled, Ones and Sixes.

Their performances are sometimes greeted with faithful fans who know to sit on the floor while the band performs. Audiences will hear a mix of originals and covers in the band’s typical slowed down style.

The largest commercial success Low has received came from a cover of “The Little Drummer Boy” which was popularized by a gap commercial.

The members of Low have launched their own record label, Chairkickers’ Union. They have helped other indie rock bands like Rivulets and Haley Bonar release their records.
