You Say Party at Second Beach as part of the 125th anniversary celebrations for Stanley Park in Vancouver.

The band, originally from Abbotsford, B.C., formed in 2003 and has released three albums to increasing fan and critical support. For the Saturday afternoon show, the quartet played a synth- and sample-heavy set. The performance featured what seemed to be several new songs, including “Friend”. The new material has a darker sensibility than the frantic, new wave-y dance-rock You Say Party is known for, and which was in contrast with the sunny Saturday afternoon setting.

You Say Party recently became active again. The band took a break following the sudden and tragic death of their drummer, Devon Clifford, in 2010. The death followed touring in support of the third You Say Party (then known as You Say Party! We Say Die!) record, XXXX (2009).

The current lineup includes Becky Ninkovic (vocals), Derek Adam (guitar), Stephen O’Shea (bass) and Krista Loewen (keyboards).
