Alexisonfire played their last gig in Vancouver last night, Dec 17. Hasta la vista, baby.

The St. Catharines punk group is on a 10th anniversary farewell tour, a little more than a year after the band members announced they were splitting. The tour began in  in London UK and will end with two shows at the Sound Academy in Toronto.

Christine Redmond reports, “Gig was good (well at least the first three songs of it) – lots of young, excited fans having a great time with relentless crowd surfing!”

We haven’t quite heard the last of Alexisonfire, however. According to an August 2012 press release, “The band is working on a discography, vinyl box set which will include 12” LPs of each studio release and out of print 7” EPs including, but not limited to, Math Sheet Demos, Crisis b-sides, Insulation Tapes, BBC Sessions. The box set will also feature a photo booklet and other exclusive items.”

The press release also states, “Alexisonfire rose up out of the Southern Ontario underground in late 2001, to become one of the most successful indie bands in Canada. They released four hugely successful studio albums, Alexisonfire (2002), Watch Out (2004), Crisis (2006), and Old Crows / Young Cardinals (2009).  Crisis debuted at #1 on the Top 200 Soundscan chart (Canada), and Old Crows / Young Cardinals debuted at #2, and charted at #9 on the US Billboard Independent Album chart.  Watch Out helped earn the band New Group of the Year at the 2004 JUNO Awards.  Their first three albums achieved platinum certification in Canada while Old Crows/Young Cardinals has reached gold certification.”

Beyond all reason, Alexisonfire’s popularity spread beyond Canada, to include the U.S., UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
