Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Juno Temple cast in The Dark Knight Rises
- by Clinton Hallahan (with additional reporting by Shawn Conner)
Christopher Nolan has added another actor from his preferred stable, one Joseph Gordon-Levitt, to the cast of his third Batman movie. This is the second major casting announcement out of Warner Bros. and Camp Nolan since the new year began, with Anne Hathaway slated to play Selina Kyle (thus Catwoman, semi-officially).
Gordon-Levitt, who first worked with Nolan as Arthur in Inception, was at first rumored to be playing Alberto Falcone, son of deposed mob kingpin Carmine Falcone of Batman Begins fame. This has lead fans to speculate that he may in fact play “The Holiday Killer”, antagonist from the standout Jeph Loeb/Tim Sale mini-series comic The Long Halloween. However, according to a March 21 Entertainment Weekly report, Gordon-Levitt will not be playing Falcone or The Holiday Killer.
Also cast in the movie is 22-year-old Juno Temple, daughter of director Julian. She is =expected to play a “street-smart Gotham girl” but, from the looks of her, she’d be perfect as The Joker’s sexy accomplice Harley Quinn.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt (J-Gords to his friends) recreated himself into a pretty damn good actor after childhood stardom and a bunch of twee indie crap. He is currently working on Rian Johnson’s new film Looper with Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt and a few time machines. This is likely payback for Johnson involving him in the director’s previous cult classic Brick and relaunching the career of the former child actor (Third Rock from the Sun).
With this news, The Dark Knight Rises will probably be the bomb.
