Dayton, Ohio indie-rockers announce first new album in six years*

Guided by Voices have announced that they will release a new album Jan 1 2012.

The announcement comes by way Mojo.com by way of RobertPollard.net (and we heard about it through a tweet linking to a Pitchfork.com report). According to the Mojo/Pitchfork, the 21-track album, Let’s Go Eat the Factory, already has a tracklisting. But who knows if any of these are for real? (Real or not, “How I Met My Mother”, “Doughnut for a Snowman” and “The Unsinkable Fats Domino” are hilarious.)

Let’s Go Eat the Factory tracklist:

01 Laundry and Lasers
02 The Head
03 Doughnut for a Snowman
04 Spiderfighter
05 Hang Mr. Kite
06 God Loves Us
07 The Unsinkable Fats Domino
08 Who Invented the Sun
09 The Big Hat and Toy Show
10 Imperial Racehorsing
11 How I Met My Mother
12 Waves
13 My Europa
14 Chocolate Boy
15 The Things That Never Need
16 Either Nelson
17 Cyclone Utilities (Remember Your Birthday)
18 Old Bones
19 Go Rolling Home
20 The Room Taking Shape
21 We Won’t Apologize for the Human Race

Of course, the album isn’t finished – the band, who have just finished a reunion tour (and promises there won’t be any more “reunion” shows – but does that rule out touring in support of a new album?) – and Guided by Voices are known for changing track-listings at the very last minute (for instance, the last album by the “classic lineup”, 1996′s Under the Bushes Under the Stars).

*And first in 15 for the so-called “classic” lineup.

Update:

Some “official” PR, courtesy the Guided by Voices email newsletter:

Let’s Go Eat the Factory was recorded in “lo- to mid-fi splendor in bandmembers’ basements and garages. The songs range from face-peeling heavy rock to delicate piano ballads and everything in between. Standouts include the demonically tuneful ‘Chocolate Boy’, the relentless chug of ‘We Won’t Apologize For The Human Race’, and instant classic ‘The Unsinkable Fats Domino’.

“Fans of GBV’s iconic release Bee Thousand will recognize the same gloriously messy aesthetic in Let’s Go Eat The Factory, which benefits, too, from the development of Robert Pollard’s songwriting in the intervening 15 years and the renewed camaraderie effected by the reunited band’s extended tour. The new album will be released on January 1, 2012 on GBV Inc.”
