Young Galaxy’s fall tour kicks off in Minneapolis in September

Young Galaxy announce their second world tour with a stop in Vancouver on Sept 17. The Montreal natives released their third studio album Shapeshifting on Paper Bag Records last year. Young Galaxy will be touring with Junior Boys for select North American tour dates including their Vancouver show.
Shapeshifting was recently included on the Polaris Music Prize and YG were the only act in the prize’s history to be included on the list in consecutive years. Austra’s “Lose It” was also remixed by the band and included on Austra’s Sparkle remix album, which can be found here.
Young Galaxy have also released their second video from Shapeshifting for “Blown Minded”. The video was created by Montreal artist Carine Khalifé, and was inspired by the textures and depths rooted within the song. Khalifé used paint as her medium and created a series of paintings captured frame-by-frame with a fixed camera over the course of four months. The process, which took place inside a darkroom, used a single light source coming from beneath the glass to reveal different textures and brush strokes.
Khalifé says the following about the process: “I worked a lot with transparency. The more paint, the darker the image, and therefore the animation became about gesture, and the texture of brushstrokes. It’s a very physical, organic process. Everything is based on the rhythm.”
