Land of Talk, on tour for its debut full-length album Some Are Lakes, playing a full house in Vancouver.

Lead singer Elizabeth Powell could hardly believe her eyes, she said, remarking that the last time they were in town they played to about 100 people.

The Montreal band, which includes bassist Joseph Yarmush and drummer Andrew Barr, formed in 2006 and released their debut EP Applause Cheer Boo Hiss shortly thereafter. The EP includes the songs “Summer Special” and “Speak to Me Bones”.

Released last year, Some Are Lakes earned the band rave reviews and was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize. Justin Vernon of Bon Iver produced the album.
