Sarah Jaffe opened for Lou Barlow (Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr.) as part of a tour in support of her debut full-length, Suburban Nature.

The Denton, TX singer/songwriter brought along a cellist and a keyboard player (who doubled up on violin for a song or two) for songs that were hushed and delicate. For a change, the Vancouver audience matched the quiet attitude of the songs, something Jaffe seemed grateful for.

In a set that was predominantly slow and ballad-y, the highlight was easily “Clementine”, one of Sarah Jaffe‘s more intense (though hardly a rocker) tunes. It might have been nice if Jaffe had thrown in a cover or a faster song or two, but then, maybe that’s just not in her (suburban) nature.
