Vancouverites were treated to a free (for realz, yo!) mid-week show at Fortune Sound Club, featuring Toronto hardcore punk group Fucked Up. Real Problems opened.
Cold Cave, Austra @ Biltmore Cabaret, photographed by Anja Weber
Thursday was crazy busy. It started off with Polaris Prize shortlisted Austra opening for Cold Cave. According to our reviewer (and everyone in attendance), Austra should have been the headliner. Read her review here.
Cults @ Venue, photographed by Tamara Lee
New to the scene, but rapidly gaining popularity, Cults headlined at Venue, playing a short but fun show. Read the review for the full story.
Thurston Moore, Kurt Vile @ the Rickshaw, photographed by Lorenzo Ignacio
And to round out the evening, Sonic Youth member Thurston Moore headlined the night at the Rickshaw, with opener Kurt Vile. How’d it turn out? Read all about it here!
Les Savy Fav, Handsome Furs @ the Rickshaw, photographed by Ashley Tanasiychuk
The following evening, Montreal electro pop couple Handsome Furs rocked out tunes from their new album Sound Kapital. Then Les Savy Fav took a page out of Fucked Up’s stage presence when big, bald, and shirtless lead singer Tim Harrington abandoned the stage to dance and shout his way through the crowd.
Battles @ the Rickshaw, photographed by Jason Statler
On Friday, experimental three-piece Battles played the Rickshaw in support of their new release, Gloss Drop.
The Herbaliser @ Fortune Sound Club, photographed by Ashley Tanasiychuk
The evening was completed on a funky hip hoppy big brass note by The Herbaliser‘s encore performance at Fortune Sound Club (like TV On The Radio, The Herbaliser, played back-to-back Vancouver shows).
San Diego Comic-Con 2011, photographed by Shawn Conner
And all week long, our intrepid editor in chief Shawn Conner was mingling with the writers, illustrators, directors, and superheroes at the San Diego Comic Con. For full coverage of the events and sightings, read his posts.
Whew! This week’s lookin’ pretty sweet too, with a possible Steve Martin show, the return of grunge rockers Soundgarden, and full coverage of the DJ’s, dancing, yoga, wild costumes, and mud wrestling that’s going to be happening this weekend at Bass Coast Festival!
Stay crazy, loyal Snipers, and we will too.
