“What Do You Mean You Missed It?” (June 13-19, 2011)
- by Ashley Tanasiychuk
In a week overshadowed by the final Stanley Cup games and the resulting riot, our senses were overwhelmed with negativity and heaviness.
Believe it or not, there were some pretty great shows happening (even on the night of Game 7!).
Here’s a look back at the week of June 13-19, 2011 in pictures. Be sure to check back every Monday – “What Do You Mean You Missed It?” will be a regular feature only on Guttersnipe!
Grant Hart @ the Biltmore Cabaret, photographed by Robyn Hanson
On the aforementioned fateful night of the Canucks dropping the ball (or puck), Husker Du member Grant Hart played a solo show at the Biltmore Cabaret. Supposedly he admitted that he was glad the Bruins won. Unsurprisingly, a bottle was thrown at him. For more on the performance, read the full review here.

The following night, and despite the far-less-than-ideal “summer” weather we’ve been having, the fans turned up at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby for an outdoor concert featuring Kid Cudi, who encouraged everyone to light up before he launched into weird mix of metal and hip hop. The Knux opened.

On Friday night, 20-year-old indie-rock act the Mountain Goats sold-out the Biltmore Cabaret. The sold-out show surprised our reviewer, both in the size of the crowd, their enthusiasm and their age. Read the full review here.

And on Saturday night, French singer/songwriter played what photog Anja Weber called an “amazing” show to a very respectful audience.

Be sure to tune in next Monday (June 27 2011) for new photos of the week – Okkervil River, The Civil Wars, Sondre Lerche, … And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, to name a few of the bands Guttersnipe is slated to shoot. And perhaps some more random pictures of Vancouver fun (more fun, less riot)!
Have a great week…
