Parallels played Library Square in Vancouver Thursday night. The Toronto synthpop band is on tour for their new album XII, which features the song “Ritual Dancer”. You can hear some tracks on the Parallels website.

The band currently consists of Holly Dodson (vocalist, composer, producer), Nick Dodson (drums) and Artem Galperine (synths). Past members include Cameron Findlay (drummer, composer, producer) and Joey Kehoe (keyboardist).

Following his departure from Crystal Castles, Findlay created Parallels with Holly in 2008. Dodson is the daughter of Rich Dodson, guitarist and composer in ’70s Canadian rock band The Stampeders (“Sweet City Woman”).

Dodson and Findlay’s first song was called “Ultralight”. Now Magazine included Parallels as critic’s pick for “Best Electronic act of 2009″, in their “Best of Toronto” issue. Dodson represented Parallels in Flare‘s 30th anniversary issue as one of the “Hottest names to know in Canadian Music”. In 2010 Parallels released their debut album, Visionaries.

Talking about the absence of Findlay on this album, Dodson told BeatRoute Magazine: “Cam and I hadn’t written anything new together for quite a while since our first album cane out so when he decided to go solo, it forced me to get in the studio with some new ideas I had been working on. I had never jumped into doing Parallels with the notion that we would only record one album, there is so much room to try new things and I love the potential that our genre has so the line-up change gave us an opportunity to do that and play with the foundations we built with the original sound.”
