Reverend Horton Heat + Nashville Pussy = one night of wild rock ‘n’ roll
- by Shadi Maceac
Reverend Horton Heat plays the Commodore Ballroom on Aug 31 with special guests Nashville Pussy.
The Texas-based Heat’s last studio album Laughing and Crying with the Reverend Horton Heat marks the band’s move away from the hard-driving punkabilly of their ’04 studio release Revival. Instead, the album is described by the press release as a “record full of country-heavy tunes about had habits, well-meaning but clueless husbands, ever expanding beer-guts and, well, Texas.”
Bandleader Jim Heath’s inspiration for the record was the product of his alter ego Harley Hog, described by Heath as a “laughing and crying” singer. Heath describes his creative process as “trying to develop a vocal style where I was always either laughing or crying. It was really over-exaggerated.”
Nashville Pussy are no strangers to these parts – the outrageous rockers were just here last fall, when they celebrated the birthday of guitarist Ruyter Suys. The band’s latest is 2009′s From Hell to Texas.
