Critics’ Choice Award winner at this year’s Brit Awards coming to North America
The winner of this year’s Critics’ Choice Award at the Brits (against The Vaccines and James Blake) is bringing her soul-pop-hip-hop sounds to North America this spring. Here’s a preview – the video for her song “Price Tag”.
Video – Jessie J, “Price Tag”:
In the past few years, Jessie J has written songs for Chris Brown and Lisa Lois (The Holland X Factor winner), and is also responsible for writing Miley Cyrus‘ smash hit “Party in the USA”. Jessie J’s debut album, Who You Are, features deeply personal songs, including the title track which is about a point in Jessie’s career that was doubtful and uncertain.
She had this to say about the track: “The most important thing in life is to be happy, but everything had become too ‘business’ and sterile. I really thought I was going to quit—not music, but the music industry…it wasn’t easy. I was really down, but when I’m down, I write a song about it.” Fret not, closeted Miley Cyrus fans, Jessie J’s debut album not only features songs about hardships, but has some fun and upbeat songs similar to “Party in the USA.”
Who You Are is set to be released on Feb 25 2011. Because of its high demand, the release date was pushed ahead by an entire month from its original March 28 release date. ”Price Tag”, featuring B.o.B., is one of two UK singles that preceded the album, along with “Do it Like a Dude.”

Jessie J is definitely one of the more exciting new artists to have come out recently. I’m not really a fan of “Do It Like A Dude”, but I absolutely love “Price Tag” (with or without B.o.B.) and her album’s title track “Who You Are”.
