Listen – Folds, Kulash, Palmer and Gaiman, ‘One Tiny Thing’

Ben Folds, Damian Kulash, Amanda Palmer, and Neil Gaiman collaborate for charity album

- by Terris Schneider

Ben FoldsDamian Kulash (OK Go), Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls, solo), and fantasy author Neil Gaiman teamed up to write and record eight songs in eight hours (4 p.m. to midnight) at Berklee College of Music on April 25, and planned to release them 10 hours later during Rethink Music in Boston. Like Radiohead did recently, this group plans to show how record companies are becoming superfluous to building buzz and distributing music.

The 8in8 album titled Nighty Night is now available through Bandcamp.com. Proceeds from the first week of downloads will benefit Berklee City Music, which provides free music education to underserved teens.

The historic collaboration was broadcast live from the recording studio at Rethink Music and the group gave a presentation there on the recording project at 10:40am followed by a private concert for conference registrants at 8:00pm at the Berklee Performance Center (BPC).
