Previews and trailers – The Artist, Tomboy, Cafe de Flore
This week sees few big releases hitting theatres. Instead, small, critically acclaimed art-house type flicks, including the silent film homage The Artist and the French-Canadian drama Café de Flore, are making the rounds, along with the Brazilian thriller Elite Squad: The Enemy Within.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering, Adam Sandler‘s Jack and Jill stays at a four per cent approval rating at RottenTomatoes.
The Artist - One of the best reviewed movies of the season (so far), The Artist is a silent black and white tribute to the early days of movies. Pacific Cinematheque screens the film 6:30 Dec 3.

An Insignificant Harvey - A truly terrible title, full of equal parts pretension, whimsy and cuteness, and the kind of thing that could only come from an auteur, i.e., a writer/director (Jeff Kopas in this case). Reviews (what few there are) have been mixed.
Elite Squad: The Enemy Within – This Brazilian thriller is getting rave reviews. The director, José Padihla, will apparently be making a RoboCop reboot.

Café de Flore – The Globe and Mail‘s Guy Dixon describes Jean-Marc Vallée’s Cafe de Flore as “a beautiful, intricate film”; most reviewer blurbs at RottenTomatoes.com seem to agree.
