The cultural juggernaut that is the Harry Potter phenomenon continues today with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. But it’s only the first part of the adaptation of the last installment in the series of seven books; we can look forward to (or not) a second part this summer.
Personally, I’m kind of ambivalent about the whole thing – I realize it serves such social purposes as putting books in the hands of young readers and employing Helena Bonham Carter. As well, from everything I’ve come across about the series, I get the impression that series author J.K. Rowling is an ace storyteller and star Daniel Radcliffe is a decent bloke with good taste in music (not that the two necessarily go together).
