Video game news digest: X-Men: Destiny, Max Payne 3 release date announced and a how-to-create a custom pro in NHL 12′s Be A Pro mode

- Rejoice X-Men fans! A new game is coming out and for once a superhero game (excluding the new Batman titles) doesn’t look like it is going to suck harder than X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Newly released X-Men: Destiny has players start out as one of three unique new mutants. You then have the option of adapting and customizing your powers. Here is where it gets intense: you can choose to join either the X-Men or the Brotherhood. Look for it on store shelves September 27.
Watch – X-Men:Destiny (trailer):
- NHL12 came out on Sept 13. In the SEVEN (still trying to get used to that) Canadian hockey markets EA Sports released team-specific cover editions of the game. Here in Vancouver, it has Alex Burrows, the Sedin Twins, Hamhuis, Edler and Luongo on the cover. When I went to pick up my copy at a Best Buy location in Vancouver, I asked the cashier if they had a Maple Leafs cover for me. All I ended up getting was a confused look and the Canucks cover.
- In related NHL12 news, 14-year-old Lexi Peters is featured as the default pro in the popular Be A Pro mode in this year’s game. Peters previously contacted EA Sports regarding the lack of options for female players. After some confusion, I found out how to change the default pro from Lexi to one you can create. Here is how to do it:
o Create a PRO in the CREATION ZONE
o Set the pro up as a skater or as a goalie (depending on what you want)
o The newly created PRO will be available in the Be A Pro mode
- In a past video games digest entry, I spoke about my excitement for the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic PC game. My anticipation has grown significantly after watching the latest character progression trailer for the Smuggler class. This Han Solo type character is not going to be the character I go with, but he sure looks rad in this video.
Watch – Star Wars: The Old Republic (Smugglers Character progression trailer):
- Vancouver-based Relic Entertainment released the highly anticipated title Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. The launch of this video alone is enough to make me want to get my hands on this gory new title. (Check back soon for a small feature on Relic Entertainment.)
Watch – Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (trailer):
- Max Payne is making his long awaited, and often delayed return to the video game world. Rockstar (my favourite video game company) announced that Max Payne 3 comes out March 2012. Also of note, the title is being worked on in Vancouver-based Rockstar offices.
