Review – Mohawk Lodge at the Lo Pub, Sept. 5

www.myspace.com/mohawklodge

these are the wild
fires
that burn deep inside
the heart
of
the mohawk lodge

Ryder Havdale.

our bodies
we share ’em,
that we do
is illimitably true

“oh
our bodies
we wear ’em out…
oh
these eyes
will wear you out”

i dare you
not to move
not to dance
not jump out
of your bones
your skin tight
covering
and rattle
and shake,
and let go,
freedom.
democracy.
there’s a dance
to be
danced,

wear ’em out

our bodies

there’s this time we have
Now.

wear ’em out.

i’ve meant to write
something
beautiful
about

The Mohawk Lodge

ever since that magical night
in June
when first that evening
i saw
Al Green
and then i flew
over to The Lo Pub
on wings of desire
Al Green soul powered
for
The Mohawk Lodge
and Octoberman
and Eamon McGrath

one of those
shows,
20 or so.

Octoberman
open
playing their
unconventionally
fun tunes
that suddenly
a minute in
gets under
my skin
into my bones
into my soul
and so
i’m left
with(in)and(out)
(of)choice,

it’s called freedom
it’s called democracy

the expression
of self
in the midst
of community

i’m dancing

and Ryder’s
just,
elated
seeing that
i care
i dare
to be different

I Will Dare
Replacements

theme songs

to live and love,
to celebrate
life by,

The Art Of Carrying On
Novillero
has carried my shattered
heart
through 20 months

alone and yet
never
i’m always
in the midst
of the music
and the dance

the fire starter
of
Wildfires

musician
and
audience

it just takes one

be the one.

i am One,

burning deep
and spreading
from this
flaming heart

and so when
the time came
for Octoberman
and Eamon McGrath
and Ryder Havdale
to be
The Mohawk Lodge,

to perform Ryder’s songs

they played with a reckless
abandon
a freedom
a democracy
of garage
star
rock n roll heroes.

Ryder
jumped and climbed and joined
my madness on the floor
and we started
the Wildfires
sweeping through
The LO Pub

we danced
together

we danced it
on the floor
and he stepped
back to the stage
and they played it
hard
and hilariously

like kids again,

playing it
with all that passion and Wildfires
burning
inside
outside
and
out of control

we burned
in the flames

that they hadn’t played that much
together
didn’t matter
these guys
just rocked the songs
punk sloppy
intensity
only added
the gasoline
to these Wildfires

and there we are the few
dancing when
5 gorgeous women
walk into the Wildfires
in their black evening dresses
and they were swept up
into the flames
and we danced.

together!

audience
musicians
dancers
players

the CD
Wildfires
is
perfectly
‘crafted’
brilliance,

live show,

better.

leaving me with the hardest choice
Weber Brothers
Al Green
and The Mohawk Lodge
for the best show that i
experienced in June,

freedom
democracy
brilliance

three way tied it/.

and then
to make this night
blast hard and fast
into
my memory cells,

Eamon McGrath
came on
with his Paul Westerberg
voice and choice
of words.
his kicking ass
songs.

beautiful endings.
to a magical night
of Wildfires.
Al Green.
Octoberman.
Mohawk Lodge.
Eamon McGrath.
way back in June.
Lo Pub.

September 5.
