Metronomy in Vancouver on Tuesday night.
The band is on tour for its latest album, Love Letters. It follows the breakthrough 2011 record The English Riviera.
Joseph Mount formed the band in Totnes, Devon, England in 1999. The current lineup includes Mount (composer, singer, keyboards and guitar), Oscar Cash (saxophone, backing vocals, guitars and keyboards), Anna Prior (drums and vocals, formerly of Lightspeed Champion) and Gbenga Adelekan (bass guitar and vocals). Love Letters is the fourth Metronomy album, although Mount has also done remixes for several artists, including Lady Gaga, Franz Ferdinand, Klaxons, Goldfrapp and more, under that name.
The new album has been getting mixed reviews. Of Love Letters, PopMatters writes, “Mount’s choice to veer away from a previously-successful sound and follow his psyche is a commendable one, but not even he sounds sure if he’s up to the task. After the strong, stylistically-synched opening duo, too much of Love Letters ends up being either too dull or insular to leave a truly lasting impression…”
