Abbie Cornish’s breakout month
Movie audiences will be getting an eyeful of Abbie Cornish in the coming weeks.
This Friday, the Australian actress will be on screens across North America when the sci-fi drug thriller Limitless opens. Based on a 2002 novel called The Dark Fields, the movie stars Bradley Cooper as a writer who takes a drug that unleashes torrents of creativity but leads to such problems as financial success, attractive women, and crossword-puzzle-solving skills. Should be a blast.
The following week, Zach Snyder’s Sucker Punch opens. Described (by us) as “Alice in Wonderland with all the whimsy and fun replaced by machine guns and fetish outfits”, the movie features a girl cast of Vanessa Hudgens, Emily Browning, Jena Malone, and Cornish, playing a character named Sweet Pea:
This is exciting news because, after dues-paying roles such as a drug addict in the very good Candy (2006, with Heath Ledger) and poet John Keats’ lover in Jane Campion’s Bright Star (2009), Abbie Cornish has finally made a movie with merchandising possibilities:
(The characters Baby Doll and Amber, played by Emily Browning and Jamie Chung, also have their own limited edition Sucker Punch sculptures.)
