Vancouver-shot SF indie feature to premiere Jan 10 at Cinematheque

Preview – New Vancouver-shot independent science fiction film Psychonaut opens Jan 10

A new, low-budget Vancouver-shot science fiction film is having its premiering Jan 10 at the Cinematheque.

Psychonaut is the brainchild of Marc Nyiti. Drawing on his background as a VFX artist, Nyiti made the film for $8,000 with a skeleton crew of two and a cast of 18. According to a Jan 3 2017 media release, filming took place in 14 locations in Vancouver in 21 days.

Nyiti collaborated with writer Michael Nelson on the screenplay.

According to the media release, “Psychonaut is a psychedelic sci-fi indie feature about mind travel. It follows one man’s journey on a path of spiritual awakening through science and technology. Scientists who have been pushed into underground research facilities following government intervention, continue to work on discovering the inner workings of the human mind. But when a secret disc containing sensitive research is stolen, it’s a race against time to recover the disc before worlds collide, causing catastrophic consequences.”

Nyiti is also the composer and lead keyboardist for psychedelic band DRUGZNDREAMZ. The Vancouver-based band provides the soundtrack to the movie. It includes the single “Emerald Eye“.
