An annual Vancouver Wine Festival tradition, the Boathouse at Kits Beach hosted a showcase of New Zealand wines. The Saturday afternoon “Passionate Pairings” grazing lunch featured three kinds of oysters, cheeses from Saputo and a few choice dishes to go with the wines.
Wineries representing include Astrolabe, Whitehaven, Stoneleigh, Akarua, Giesen, Marisco and Oyster Bay. The emphasis was on Sauvignon Blanc but Astrolabe was also pouring a delicious Chardonnay (alas, not available in B.C.), Giesen had a Riesling, and Oyster Bay contributed some bubbly with a sparkling Cuvée. A number of Pinot Noirs were also being poured. Guests, meanwhile, were encourage to pick their favourite pairing.
The 2013 Vancouver International Wine Festival ends Sunday March 3.
